My name is Gems otherwise known as Jemme MD Art.

I am a 37 year old photographer and self portrait artist based nr Godalming in Surrey.

SELF-PORTRAIT PERSONAL PROJECTS

My nude work and self portraiture is based around the documentation of my personal journey living with a degenerative disease called muscular dystrophy. 

​

I also use photography to document and speak openly about my struggles with mental health and how creativity has helped me to overcome many obstacles associated with both my disability and my mental health illness.

​

Photography, art and writing gives me the space I need to feel freedom and the ablility to no longer feel confined by my disease.

​

My goal primarily with my self portrait projects is to help those personally affected by a life changing disability/ chronic illness disease or condition by using fine art photography to tell a powerful story, to reach out to the viewer, to educate. to assist and to raise awareness of the benefits of creative therapeutic approaches, especially in my case, photography.
